From your bridal bouquet to the table centrepieces, fabulous flowers have the transformative power to set the mood for your dream wedding. Given that your flower arrangements and overall decor are what set the theme for your festivities, we thought it would be helpful for our brides to be given a breakdown of the seasonal availability of flowers in Sri Lanka, along with a few key points to keep in mind before consulting a florist. We enlisted the help of Umanga of Poru Weddings whose floral expertise helped us write this little guide. Here goes:
Flowers that are available in Sri Lanka all year round
You don't have to look very far for vibrant tropical blossoms because ginger, heliconia and lotus flowers are available all year round.

Traditional choices such as roses, chrysanthemum, lilies, hydrangeas, babies breath, gladiolus, daisies and gerberas are also available all year round.

Flowers that are not available or not always available in Sri Lanka, that can be imported for your wedding

Peonies
Eustoma
Tulips
Static
Sweet William
Delphinium
Caspian
(The prices of these blooms depend on the country of origin, world market prices and also freight charges)
A few helpful tips when planning your wedding decor
Be transparent about how much you want to spend so your florist is able to shortlist flowers that are within the budget.
Keep an open mind about alternatives in case the flowers you want won't be in bloom during your wedding month.
Find out how your florist charges for their services.
Poru Weddings follow the different business model to the standard wedding decor packages that are more common in the industry, choosing instead to charge clients based on the variety of flower and complexity of the design. Potential clients are advised to plan ahead and reserve services well ahead of time, as the company chooses to focus on only a few weddings per month. The company values quality over a large number of wedding bookings as it allows them to focus on creating exclusive wedding decor for each ceremony. Happy Flower Hunting!
