Since Valentines day is around the corner, we thought of compiling a list of all the beautiful botanical gardens in Sri Lanka. With everything that is happening around us, we thought a picnic in the great outdoors would be a refreshing way to spend the day.
Distance from Colombo - 2 hour (62km)
Ticket cost - 60 LKR
Opening and closing time - 8am to 5pm
What we personally loved about this garden was, that there is so much meadow area for picnics and since its not a very common botanical garden in Sri Lanka, the less crowded it is.

Gampaha gardens is like a mini Peradeniya gardens, but just an hours drive from Colombo. We drove there on a poya day at opening time and the place was deserted. I spent all morning pretending to be Oprah Winfrey in her own private rose garden.

Opening and closing time - 7.30am to 5pm
The first time I visited Hakgala gardens as an adult, my mind flashed backed to the time I indulged my self in the classic novel the secret garden. We went in January so the whole place was damp, and I felt like Mary Lennox frolicking around the grounds.

Ticket cost - 50 LKR
Opening and closing time - 8am to 5.30pm
The most popular botanical gardens in Sri Lanka, according to Wikipedia in 2016 more than 1.2 million people visited the gardens. So, we would definitely recommend going on a week day morning to avoid being exposed to too many people.

Situated right in the middle of the town, Victoria park during the season is in full bloom. We picnic-ed by the rose garden, I remember the weather being the right amount of sun and wind.

Ticket cost - 60 LKR
Opening and closing time - 7.30am to 5pm
The furthest away, yet a shorter drive cause of the highway. This beautiful garden reminded me of Taylor Swifts video for blank spaces (minus the horses and smashing of one of a kind vintage cars)
