If you have been following Isabelle & Mimi for the past year, you would probably already know that tea parties and picnics our one of our major obsessions. We previously did a post on Our Favorite Tea Party Moments in Pop Culture. So this year we thought of compiling a list of all the Whimsical picnics we can think of to get you inspired with planning one.
1. The Sound of Music
This scene in the movie with Julie Andrews and the Von Trapp kids, has been engraved in my mind since I was a kid. What could be more magical for my 4 year old brain to see than a picnic on a meadow overlooking a valley with a beautiful castle in the background. The obsession clearly started here.

2. Harry Styles in Watermelon Sugar
A picnic on the beach, indulging in watermelon and Harry Styles asking you permission to play with your hair? Yes please!

3. Bridgeton
Our vintage hire manager at Isabelle & Mimi wasn't a big fan of the storyline in Bridgeton. She did however watch the entire first season without any hesitation to enjoy the aesthetics, obviously! We don't blame her because every detail from the fine china to the Victorian style drawing room interior, was honestly a treat for the eyes. However, this picnic scene in episode 6 where the Duke and Duchess of Hastings are meant to be enjoying a picnic spread in the sun, ends with his and her grace bumping uglies.

4. Taylor Swift in Blank Space
Tay Tay, can never disappoint, when it comes to her music and her extremely creative music videos. This super brief picnic scene in blank spaces obviously caught our eyes. The entire music video is just fun to watch, however I did catch my husband involuntarily flinch every time Miss Swift slammed her golf stick on the Silver Shelby AC Cobra. I googled it to let him know that no harm was really done. (Phew!)

5. Downton Abbey
One of our all-time favorites TV shows to date. Set in the Edwardian-era (and on to the 1920s) when aristocracy defined life in England. Their stunning attire, their impeccable manners and most importantly the way they dinned extravagantly upstairs and the intricate manner in which dinner was prepared downstairs by their staff was fascinating.

This lavish picnic in which Harold Levinson (Cora's brother) and Madeleine Allsopp is seen casually chilling in the sun is hosted by the Earl and Countess of Grantham.

This humble and cozy picnic, held most likely in a public park in Yorkshire, has a few of the servants of Downton abbey enjoying the great outdoors.
It's intriguing and fascinating to learn the lives of the nobility and servants on Downton Abbey. Of course, we are also more than pleased that this way of inequality of life has drastically declined since the 1920s. But we can't deny we do enjoy every second of the show!
